I want to be more involved in the process of making my photos. For that reason, I’ve made a decision to shoot less and less digital for my personal work. Shooting film involves more steps between taking the photo and showcasing it. I’ve found that there are more dopamine hits when shooting film: taking the photo, inspecting the negative, scanning/inverting, and refining the positive. It’s been a rewarding experience from the beginning. All of my personal work, from the last year, has been shot using a film camera.
Sometimes There's a Dip /
Sometimes things go your way, and other times, they don’t. On a recent trip, things did not go my way… Or so I thought.

Getting back into blogging is something I’ve been meaning to do, but I didn’t quite know where to begin. I found that I had lost some of my motivation and to some extent my way. Taking a step back and looking for inspiration is a good place to start. I’m excited to bring more stories and images to this medium. Until then, I figured I’d hone my eye with shooting a city.
Thanks for reading! Stay safe everyone!
Protest /
Where do I begin? Watching news from all over the country last night really drives the point home. The point that many American’s have been trying to make for so many years. America cannot treat some of its citizens like they’re a second class.
There is one thing that I noticed this time around. As a member of the majority, we need to stop trying to find reasons to discredit the plight of the minority. Yes; violence, looting, and reckless behavior is bad, but it doesn’t change the fact that there are individuals not being held to account for their terrible actions on the other side of the law. The majority only see the faults of the minority and that drives their outlook on the whole. The majority discredits the whole movement because of the actions of a few. Stop trying to find reasons to discredit the whole movement based on the actions of a few.
END
I settled in after a long day of marching and observing the protests located throughout Cleveland and on the steps of the Cuyahoga County Justice Center. It was then that I realized something. How far the world I was in at that time was from where I was hours before. I sat on the floor, legs crossed, glued to the television. I was watching protests over the same issues I had been protesting. Occurring in nearly every major US city. Seeing shot after shot of freedoms being expressed and a litany of laws being broken. The dichotomy of protester actions is obvious and the irony is not lost. But above all, the message is clear. It is a plea for black Americans, all across this county, to be treated with the same respect as their white brothers and sisters, especially by those who have chosen to uphold the law and ensure order.
My hope with this gallery is to show what it’s like to be present during a boiling point of civil justice.
Re-Edit your Photos! /
The original photos I delivered were the ones in color. I was going for a bright/airy mood. The goal was to keep everything very simple and clean. By revisiting the photos sometime later, I saw something different. I saw dark & moody this time. So, I went about re-editing them in black and white with a slight color tint. The outcome was a totally different mood.
The outcome was a realization that it’s worthwhile to revisit old photos and paint them with a new brush so to speak. Keep it fresh, keep it new!
PRESETS: Finding Your Look /
The best way to develop you own style is to make your own presets!
Making your own presents goes a long way in developing your own style. You learn how to edit photos. What works and what doesn’t. You learn how to develop your own unique look! Adjusting highlights, shadows, color, tones, gradients, etc have a profound impact on the way your photos are perceived. Making my own presets has taught me everything I know about photo editing. I do my best to get the photo the way I want it in camera, but the photo ALWAYS pops in Adobe Lightroom. Take, for instance, the photos below. They were edited with the exact same reset I made.
But don’t filters do the same thing. Well, yes and no. They accomplish the same result, but anyone can choose Clarendon, Gingham, Moon, Lark, Reyes, Juno, etc. from the list of Instagram filters and develop their style, but presets are unique to you. In a pinch, filters can work, but if you want a better understanding of your style, making your own presets are the way to go!
